Mental Health & Smoking
- There are significantly more smokers among people with mental health problems than among the general population.
- People smoke for many reasons, habit, stress, comfort, boredom, addiction, peer-pressure and living with other smokers to name but a few.
- There are studies that link smoking with depression. It is now known that If you smoke you are more likely to suffer from depression than if you do not.
- It is a myth that people with mental health difficulties cannot give up smoking. There are many examples of people successfully "giving up" using The Sandwell Stop Smoking Service.
- Our service can provide you with one-to-one or group sessions locally. We also offer a variety of daytime and evening sessions.
- Nicotine replacement therapy is available to all smokers including those with mental health problems. If you take medication for your illness you can still use nicotine replacement therapy following an assessment from a "Stop Smoking" Advisor.
If you suffer with any type of mental illness and you would like to speak to us about your smoking please give us a call:
