Tobacco smoke contains more than 4000 chemicals. Most people know about tar nicotine and carbon monoxide but did you know that it also contains 600 toxic substances? Have a look at what goes into your body with every puff.

  • Acetone - used to make paint stripper
  • Ammonia - found in toilet cleaners
  • Arsenic - a deadly poison used in insecticides
  • Benzene - used as a solvent in fuel and chemical manufacturing
  • Butane - a form of lighter fluid
  • Formaldehyde - a highly poisonous substance, used to preserve dead bodies
  • Hydrogen cyanide - a poison used in gas chambers
  • Methanol - a rocket fuel
  • Maphthalene - more commonly known as mothballs
  • Shellac - when mixed with alcohol the resin becomes a wood varnish
